Dave is Brave Music CD

Content:  It has five tracks.  These include:
  • Be Brave: You can listen to a sample of this song on our YouTube Video clip.
  • Dave is Brave read aloud by Amanda.
  • Find that picture! A listening activity that encourages children to look for different facial expressions and think about what these mean.
  • Help me read - a cloze activity where Amanda leaves out words for the listener to say.  This will help children use the repetition and rhythm of the story to remember key words.
  • Be Brave (music only) - to be used for concerts or karaoke-ing at home.
Format: This is a music CD that can be played on all CD players and computers.

Printable Games

These games are pdf documents or jpg pictures that can be printed out in colour or greyscale.  They are included on the Activity CD.

The Feelings Game:

This is a set of printable cards that can be used to play snap, memory or any other matching game.  There are four different emotions represented in three different ways - see the example in the picture on the left (top left-hand corner).

How are You Feeling?! Board Game:

This game is for between two and six players.  There is a "feelings dice" with different emotions represented on each side of the dice. Children take turns rolling the dice, then moving to the next square matching the emotion they roll up.  Then there is an instruction care for each emotion which has a dual purpose - to help children understand what to do when they feel a certain way, and to tell the child what to do in the game.

For example, landing on a red square with Golly's angry face means that the child picks up an "angry" card.  The card will say something like, "You are feeling angry.  Take a deep breath and miss a turn."

The game can also be played with a normal dice.

Activity Sheets

This is a pdf document that contains 11 worksheet activities. Each page contains a colour worksheet involving a different activity such as colouring-in, cutting and sorting, matching pictures, tracing the dots and solving mazes.

The aim of these activities is to help children identify and understand the four key emotions featured in Dave is Brave - happy, sad, angry, brave.  One activity also focuses on helping children identify things that make them happy or sad.

This comes as part of the Activity CD.

Help Dave Say Stop!

This is an interactive computer game with the aim of reinforcing and teaching the word "stop" in its social context... or just for fun .

With each press of the space bar, children hear the word "Stop!" said in a firm voice.  Across the screen flies a "stop hand"  When this comes in contact with Golly, he stops - then appears in a different position to start the process again.  If Golly is not stopped, he will crash into Dave.  The game continues until Golly has crashed into Dave 3 times. The game ends with applause and cheers.

The game is included on the Activity CD.

Activity Plans

On the Activity CD there are two pdf documents that provide resources and suggestions for parents and teachers.

The first document called "Activity Plans" contains the four original activity plans released with Dave is Brave.  Each plan has a unique theme and provides questions for discussion and activities to help promote social, behavioural and language skills.

 The Themes include:

    • What does it mean to be brave?
    • What does it mean to be a bully?
    • Being Brave
    • What helps us to be brave?

The second booklet called Be Brave like Dave is the first of our new activity plans.  Additional to the items provided in the original activity plans, this also contains an article on resilience and photocopiable resources such as "bravery awards".

The third booklet is called What if They Don't Stop?  This explores a range of other strategies children can use when faced with bullying.  There are visuals to help children learn these skills, as well as a DVD clip explaining the steps in a similar way to a social story.  The DVD clip is now part of the Dave is Brave DVD
