This reflects our mission - which is firstly about helping children develop self-esteem and coping skills.  These are essential building-blocks for mental health and social relationships.  If we build these skills in young children, we will be helping to lay the foundation for their social future.

The second part of our mission is helping families and educators teach children social skills.  These include basic skills such as sharing and turn-taking, right up to more complex skills like predicting how their actions might affect others.

Our Logo

Our logo was designed by Amanda to reflect the two key principles behind Learn to be Buddies.

Firstly, the importance of adults in modeling and teaching children resilience and social skills.  This is reflected in the impression of the adult sitting (see image behind and incorporating the L and the 2) with a child at their knee (see image behind and incorporation the B).

The second principle is fun and dynamic interaction.  We have tried to reflect this in the angle, colours and shading of the image.

Our Books

Our children's books are designed to be used for children of all abilities.  That is, we have used simple language with realistic story-lines and pictures so that children with Autism, Down Syndrome and other developmental delays can get as much meaning out of them as children without any disabilities.

The books model language and body language to help children learn social skills.  The meaning and emotion of the stories are not hidden.  They are reflected explicity in the pictures and words.

Our Blogs

 Amanda writes two blogs.  One is focused on behaviour, inclusion and issues related to children with disabilities. It is called the Learn to be Buddies Blog.

 

The second blog is called the Learn to be Buddies Series Blog.  It will focus specifically on the topics related to the children's books.  Currently Amanda is writing about the issue of bullying.
